Horror is a very complex genre. This genre is complex because sometimes, no matter how hard a show tries, it just isn’t scary. Especially for anime, it is very hard to get a horrid vibe going around the whole series. But of course, there are still a lot of golden horror anime titles which you can go and watch right now. Today, I’ll be giving you a list of the Top 10 best horror anime ever.

Shinsekai Yori is a true psychological horror show which will most definitely cause shivers to run down your spine. The plot of this anime is not very eye-catching, but once you get started, there is no way to stop watching it. This anime has that trope of starting off the anime with little kids and ending it with the kids being all grown-up. Many anime try to adopt that trope, but none do it quite as masterfully as this show. If you have never watched a horror anime before, then this anime is for you.

This anime follows the story of a 12-year-old girl named Saki Watanabe who has just awakened to her psychic powers. At Sage academy, she is joined by her friends, the mischievous Satoru Asahina, the shy Mamoru Itou, the cheerful Maria Akizuki, and Shun Aonuma, a mysterious boy whom Saki admires.

Mirai Nikki is a fast-paced romantic-horror anime, which is very popular amongst the whole anime community. The anime community has a major love-hate relationship with this show. As for me, I absolutely loved this show. The concept of the show is very unique, and this concept got executed in a very beautiful way. This anime has brilliantly animated fight scenes. Once you get started with this show, you won’t be able to stop yourself.

This anime is absolutely brilliant, I love it, but I don’t recommend watching it! Deadman Wonderland is one of those masterpieces which for some reason, never got a second season. You are just left there with a lot of questions about the whole story as the anime only has 12 episodes. I would recommend that you read the manga instead, for a better understanding of the show. However, if you do decide to watch it, the first season is a complete masterpiece.

It looked like it would be a normal day for Ganta Igarashi and his classmates. They were preparing to go on a class field trip to a certain prison amusement park called “Deadman Wonderland”, where the convicts perform dangerous acts for the onlookers’ amusement. However, Ganta’s life is quickly turned upside down when his whole class gets massacred by a mysterious man. Ganta gets framed for the whole incident and is sentenced to death. Now, this took a huge turn!

This anime is guaranteed to drive you insane. Corpse Party is a very disturbing horror anime that will leave you speechless. This anime is based on a game of the same name. This anime only has 4 episodes, and it truly manages to masterfully fit the whole story in only those 4 episodes. To be very honest, the characters in this anime were very generic and not very memorable, but all the other aspects of this show are just brilliant.

The plot follows the story of nine students who are gathered in their high school at night to bid farewell to a friend. They perform a sort of ritual for them to remain friends forever, using small paper charms shaped like dolls. However, the students do not realize that these charms are connected to Heavenly Host Academy, an elementary school that was destroyed years ago after a series of gruesome murders took place.

However, in many anime, vampires are shown as these kinds of friendly creatures, who can live together with humans. Shiki is one of the few shows, which actually gives justice to these mythical creatures. Shiki may not look the part at first glance, but don’t be fooled as there is actually quite a deep plot to this series.

Hellsing is another show about vampires. This action thriller is actually not very scary or disturbing. However, it is still very entertaining. This anime has a very unique story.

Even though it is included in the horror genre, Parasyte the Maxim is not much of a horror show. This anime is actually more of a psychological action show. Personally, I love this show the most out of this whole list. Parasyte the Maxim has very good animation, which makes the fight scenes insanely epic. I also found the plot of the story to be extremely unique. This anime shows us the reality of how deadly a parasite can really be.

The story of this anime follows Shinichi Izumi. Shinichi falls victim to a parasite, this parasite tries to take over his brain but fails to do so, ending up in his right hand instead. Thus, the pair is forced into an uneasy coexistence and must defend themselves from hostile parasites that hope to eradicate this new threat to their species.

This psychological horror has a very complex and wonderfully concocted story. One thing this anime is the most famous for is its opening theme. The opening theme of this anime is very creepy. This anime has a very unique concept and the art style is also quite good. The one thing that I didn’t like about this anime was the unnecessary fanservice. This anime is filled to the brim with unneeded fanservice which really killed the whole experience for me.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is another unsettling and extremely creepy show on this list. Higurashi epitomizes how you should never judge something by its cover. At first glance, it looks like a simple, generic harem series. In reality however, it is nothing short of genius. The plot at first looks very generic. Just a new kid moving to a new town. Beneath this fake exterior, however, lies a horrifying story filled to the brim with suspense.

1. Another:

Another is number 1 on this list, and for good reason. This anime is unlike any other horror series. The suspense, the animation, the soundtracks, the voice acting, and the pacing, are all perfect. The show maintains a horrid tone throughout its run and does not stray from its root. I myself, actually watched another back when I was just a little kid, and this anime really stuck with me! I still remember the story crystal clear even after all these years.

The story of this anime follows 15-year-old Kouichi Sakakibara.
